The Giraffe Heroes Program is a story-based, K-12 character education cross curriculum that teaches courage, compassion and active citizenship, service learning, social & emotional learning and an opportunity to participate in community service projects.
The goals of the Giraffe Heroes Program are that the staff and parents will identify and implement appropriate strategies for creating and maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students. Another goal is to promote positive character development in alignment across the state standards.
All classes are actively involved in community service projects. Our students have donated their time, talents and treasures to the SPCA, Garden Gate Nursing Home, The Buffalo Zoo, Valentines for Veterans, Students Against Hunger Food Drive and Children's Hospital to name a few.
Our students learn how to be human giraffes and "stick their necks out" for others. We have student of the month programs to recognize students who exemplify maryvale Intermediate's spirits. Students who are respectful, responsible, hard working, compassionate, persistent and constantly strive to always do their best are rewarded at the month assemblies. Their family members are invited to share their moment in the spotlight.
